‘Lightwork’ By The Numbers: What You Need To Know About DBlack’s First Album In Four Years

Say what you will about Desmond Blackmore, but the man whose twitter profile reads ‘Multiple Award Winning Afrobeats/Hiphop Artist x Entrepreneur‘ has lived up to his hype.

Very few mainstream artistes have received the kind of attacks DBlack has had to endure, so to remain in the game and ready to release an album is a testament to his character and resilience. The album is called Lightwork and it boasts a long list of collaborations that will leave a lot of artistes jealous.

Let’s dive into what this album is, by the numbers.

1. It is a 19-track album
Lightwork is not your standard 12-14 track album. It does not have the 30 tracks Sarkodie’s Sarkology came with but 19 is a commendable number nontheless. His latest single Champ which features MI is present on the album. The original ‘Personal Person’ is not on the album but a remix is and we are curious to find out what it’s going to be like.

2. 6 Producers Worked On The Album
The usual suspect; DJ Breezy produced 12 of the 19 tracks on the album. Fortune Dane (Original – Sarkodie, Hand To Mouth – Sarkodie) and Mr. Kamera both produced 2 tracks. Shaker, Nshorna Musik and Gem are all credited with one song each on the album.

3. 23 Artistes Were Featured On The Album
From MI, Cassper Nyovest through Sarkodie and Pappy Kojo, Seyi Shay and Davido up to Kofi Nti, Ofori Amponsah and then Luther, D Black brought a diverse range of artiste from different countries and genres to this album. The expectation is that the diversity of this list will enrich the album as a whole.

4. 1 (Unreleased) Collaboration With Castro
Even though ‘Personal Person’ remix has Castro (obvs), DBlack made sure include a song which featured only himself and Castro. The title of this song is Wo Nkoa.

6. The Album Was Recorded In 6 Studios Across 4 Countries
DBlack used his own Black Avenue Studios and Sound Republic in Ghana. Cosher Studios and The Sandton Sun Suites in South Africa also had tracks recorded there. In the US, he used the Black Star line Studios and then Loopy Music/Choc City Music Studios in Nigeria.

7. 30th Sepetember is the date of release.
